First day in the shop in 3 weeks. Fab day...

    Focusing on bodywork right now...
Needed new rocker panels so I decided to give panel beating a try. Made a 4' sheet metal bender out of scrap... It's not great, I need to stiffen it up and figure out a more secure clamping method. It gave me a good starting point though.

Followed up with a hammer and some scrap angle...

50,000 hammer blows and a very sore forearm later...

It's not OEM I know, and it needs finishing via file and sandpaper but it fits pretty well and should clean up alright. The hardest part of the whole thing was making the second one match... I wasn't entirely successful as the second panel is a bit off compared to the first but I'm hoping I can work it a bit more when I tack it to the body.

Me neither, and it's a good thing too

That curve was a bit tricky...

    no doubt it was tricky.

I would have done it str8 to not worry about it ... then kicked myself for not doing it proper.

Maybe this thing will make out to a Ogopogo run in 2012.

Long time since the last update spent welding rocker panels and trying to flatten my golfball roof. I think I'm just chasing my tail on the roof, wasting a lot of filler and hours sanding it off. I might have to give in and take it to a body guy... so frustrating.

Got my finished plenum from the fab shop finally... Makes me wish I had a tig welder, he does really nice aluminum work.

Was getting ready to put the carbs on and found this...

My timing belt is cut somehow so I have to get a new one before I can finish with the engine. And I have to leave for another 2 weeks for work. This stuff takes forever when you can only work on it 2 or 3 days a month...

Got a new timing belt and put the engine back together. Never did find what cut the belt but it could have fallen out in transport...

Used the support from the oem intake to make a support for the rx-1 carb bank. Still need to make something for the plenum, since the only thing holding it on is silicone hose. All that's left is a couple vacuum hoses and I can try to start it with functioning boost this time...

I noticed when it was strapped down to the trailer that the rear tires were hitting the wheel arch so I tried massaging them out a bit and found out the steel was paper thin on the passenger side. Used some 1/4" rod to shape an arch and replaced the thin steel with 20 g.sheet.

Still working on the body work to be ready for paint in the next couple of months...

I think so too. Had a mishap during transport though. The hood latch let go and the hood got completely borked when it came up in the wind. Pulled the inner support right off the skin and trashed the nose of the hood. Good thing I have a couple spares...

Finally got to lay down some paint on the main shell. Used some leftover Dupont Nason paint from a friends stash. The Black was only going to be a base for metallic blue but I liked it so much I cleared it. The roofline will be matte black. Still have to finish more body work on the doors, trunk and hood. Cell phone pics, sorry...

Hopefully doing the flat black on monday...
