Dropped the engina out today, Stripped off the harness and intake side. Going to jettison all the wiring I don't need and re-wrap the harness to get rid of the brittle old tape and sheathing. Also going to get rid of a bunch of unused celica connectors that have been hanging out in the engine bay.

More importantly I'm putting in new valve seals, cam seals, valve cover gaskets, timing belt, clutch, oil cooler... some other stuff?

I need to get this car did back up so I can move on to the race car.

    Anybody ever head of Jonan?

    Wheels and tires, gaskets, etc.

Took off the intake and harness and purged out all the unneeded wiring. Mostly auto trans control stuff, and dash wiring.Gave the engine a bit of a bath too. The 1JZ head casting cleans up real shiny. I like it. I'm going to do some port matching and cleanup before it all gets reassembled.

I need to get a gopro, my iphone photos suck.

Also ordered up a whole bunch of woven nylon sheathing to re-do the harness in. Should look pretty tidy.

And i've just convinced myself that its go time on some BC 264s while the engine is out. Going to do the whole head. Stock valvetrain, a full mild port, valve deshroud. Grab some free power (besides the cams... not free).

Why are they ****? Please tell before i drop some money.

Titan sells them. I can't find any horror stories. A single HKS cam costs more than the pair of BCs.

They do with a bit of machining. Journal, lobe, and cam gear mounting positions are the same. You just have to shave a bit off the butt end of the cam.

mis machined. people praise them because they are technically better than stock, they are cheap etc.
stock 1jz cams are awfully limiting, as im sure you know. stock north america 2J cams are a good upgrade if u can find them.
thats a really good price for HKS cams

Still waiting on parts. Getting the knockoff Vs in this size with this size tires:

Painted my valve covers in pearl white. Pretty happy with how it turned out so I'm going to post a bunch of pictures.

Monkeyed with the subframe mount. Made my bushings into high performance bushings. Cut off some chunks of steel that Toyota tacked onto the mount. I guess they are meant to be some kind of vibration dampers.

That welding in the above pic is the installation of a adjustable rear camber kit.

Brought the head into a machine shop today to have it resurfaced. Had some minor grooves worn in from expansion/contraction against the MLS HG. I'll get it back next week and port match the intake mani, injector mani, and intake ports on the head. I'm going to ope up the exhaust ports just slightly, but to gasket match it you would have to take out a looooot of material. They are so tiny! I've read some crap about wanting to not match them because the step helps prevent flow reversion and scavenging.... whatever... it's not a race engine and I don't want to lose torque. I'll just clean up the edges a bit. It's proven that porting on JZs does little to **** all without cams to compliment. And even with cams, gains are marginal. Making the intake flow path matched makes nothing but sense to me though for fuel distribution and combustion efficiency.

Cylinders look good, crosshatch still showing. A couple of minor shadows in couple cylinders from a bit of rust that must have accumulated some time in its JDM travels. No scoring or anything that is noticeable to the touch.

Get the head back next week, then its reassembly and reseal time.
