    2011 Lexus IS350 6MT Build

After years of waiting and researching, I feel like everything is right for me to start this project and I'm pretty excited to say the least!

Car started as a 2011 IS250 6MT and over the years I have done a lot of changes to the car, including suspension, LSD, a few computers and exterior parts. Still, this is the biggest change I've done for sure.

    And so it begins!

I'm guessing it bolts up to the transmission? and motor mounts?

and this is going to be fantastic with the OEMLange? treatment.

Yes, the transmission and engine mounts are the same. Even the valve covers, timing covers, water pipes and hoses are all the same. Same exhaust manifolds, spark plugs, ignition coils, VVT-i control valves, position sensors among other things.

I have high hopes for very fantastic things!

tl;dr: I'm doing an engine swap.

It's very exciting, and the first one I'm aware of in North America.

Took me a few minutes to realize he's starting from an IS250 not an IS350. Very cool swap. Love the oem parts

Any chance you can weigh the 2.5L or the 3.5L before you put it in? I'm sure someone wants to put that in an AE86

    The 2GR is 399lbs. The 4GR is 397lbs.

According to info from Toyota. Weights include fluids. These engines would be difficult to get working properly in an AE86, modern stuff, lol.

The extra 102hp and 85 ft/lbs with a manual transmission is what I seek. Without having to resort to owning a BMW or something, lol.

If you had an IS250 6AT and wanted to do the swap I'd say sell the car and buy an IS350 for sure. Maybe one day they'll be cheap, like doing a GT-S swap, but not yet.

I heard the 250's were prone to valve failure or something weird?

Carbon buildup due to the DI system. No different than Audi and BMW. The D4-S system is less likely to experience it due to having port and direct injection.

My 250 engine wasn't too bad, but was new enough to have the updated piston ring design, etc.

4GR-FSE successfully removed. Now to swap over any parts that I want to keep onto the used engine and need to finish modifying the engine-side of the wiring harness for the manual transmission. My attempts to find a larger clutch disc that would fit the 4GR pressure plate and flywheel have failed (had hoped a 7M-GTE/1JZ-GTE clutch disc or 5VZ-FE clutch disc would work, they don't), so I will be sticking with a stock-sized 236mm clutch disc.

Of note: the RA62 is in reality, quite a large transmission.

How is the engine management going to work? Hacked is250 computer or will the 350 computer give you 300hp in neutral without whining?

I'm going to have the 350 ECU reprogrammed to remove the automatic transmission portion.

I'm out of the loop on new Toyotas. IS250, swapping to IS350. Did we not get IS350's or?
I agree with Devin. Playing with new cars gives me similar feelings to walking into the women's bathroom; for the most part I know what's going on there, It's exciting, but I am definitely out of my element.

The IS350 was never sold with a manual transmission anywhere. If we had IS350s with manuals, I would have bought one to begin with for sure. But we don't, so I will resort to having to build it myself.

I do wish it was more like older cars too. Smart keys are actually kind of dumb. Haha.
