Since it has been a racecar for most of it's life, it has not had windows and water has got in from time to time. The poorly re-installed windshield did not help. that water liked to settle in the front floorboards and especially between the heavy plate that was installed for the cage to weld to and the original floor metal, making rust. I cut that out the other day and replaced the affected floor section with some thicker steel (18ga I think). Also continued the joyous job of wire-wheeling off the rubber undercoating/seamsealer and applying new seamsealer to the new panels. After that I got to smearing on some grey tremclad. I love this paint. Goes on nice and thich with a brush and flattens out smooth and glossy. All of the car that is not exterior body panels will be this colour in the end (engine bay, interior, etc.).

What colour are you making the outside? I have seen a few people loving this colour recently. How does that paint stand up to being on the floor without a carpet or mat under the pedals?

It'll be a zenki red paint scheme on the outside. It's a good colour for inside a racecar because it's not too bright to the drivers eyes, doesn't show dirt too badly, and is a light enough colour to help spot leaks/damage. I'll probably put some skateboard griptape where my heels will go.

That is a cool idea. I painted mine black, but I'll ware through the paint I used in no time. I should have anything leaking in my car, I don't even have a heater! the red and grey will look nice!

I was going to mention you should make some floor mats out of some black Por15. would look cool on the grey floor and would never wear through.
Maybe toss some sand into it while it cures so there is some "grip" but less than grip tape which would do a number on the heals/backs of your shoes.

Ahh yes that Grey Tremclad is good stuff, when I was Gasfitting we would paint all of the exposed black iron pipe outside with it. It holds up great to the lower mainland rain, and seems to be able to take a beating if you don't have any bubbles

Found some time to put some work in this weekend, so it is rolling again. Manual rack in, T3 RCAs, outter tie rods, camber plates up front, T3 rear links, poly bushings in the back. Sticking with the Tokico Illuminas tht came with the car for now, but will probably put in a short stroke Konis in the spring. Next step will be getting the brake system back in.

Here is what the bottom looked like with paint finished.

Put the brake and clutch lines back in the bay before I had to head off to camp.

    Tucked in the celica too.

Engine is back in and running. Dash back in, Next steps are some tidying up and sealing of my rear quarterpanel replacement, and building an exhaust. Then I am going to drive it to my dad shop on the mainland to do the cage work.

I had to weld some buttons onto this T3 intermediae shaft and file them down to get a tight fit in the column.

Also i bought this 1975 280z. It will be cool one day.

So uh, can I pay you to do all the rust repair on my car please?

Great work going on in here, Clay! I love watching rust repair, so purifying and soothing for the soul.

(PS. I wasn't kidding, I'll pay you to do my car. I have the patch panels cut out already.)

Yes, Datusn will probably be winter 2017/18.

Brandon, I wish I could do nothing but work on cars, but I don't see how I could. If you were closer I would absolutely help out.

Need to get this quarter panel sealed up and lass back in then i"ll drive it to the Mainland for caging in my dads shop. I have neither the space or the bender to do a cage at home.

Turns out this thing will fire without an ECU. Never thunk it. CSI circuit still gets power and residual fuel pressure gives it enough to start briefly. Then I realized I had pulled the ECU to paint underneath it. Building an exhaust in the next couple days. 2.5 OD 16ga 304 stainless with a magnaflow muffler that will exit with a turndown in front of the passenger rear wheel. Going for something short and light and since I do not have short strokes in the back currently and don't want to screw around with axle sag limiting straps right now, this will be the solution. In the future I want to do an aluminum tailpipe for more light. Pie cut practice coming up!
