Does installation requires drilling?

Does installation requires drilling?

Yes, it requires drilling 2 holes per side. But it's easy.

Made of flat 3/16" stock, precision bent to fit. MIG welded construction by a certified machinist/welder.

Installation time (not including fender removal and replacement) about 10 minutes per side.

Pics will be up soon.

Not just steel, mild steel but 4130 Chrome Moly Steel? FTW.

4130, also known as "Chrome Moly" (short for chromium molybdenum) is a general purpose steel that has been widely used by the motorsports industries for many years. Weldability, fabrication and mild hardenability make it a popular choice in all forms - tube, bar, sheet, and plate.

Not just steel, mild steel but 4130 Chrome Moly Steel? FTW.

Oddly enough, mild steel and chromoly steel have the same stiffness. And in this case, the strength of the braces are not a concern, it's stiffness that we're after. So they're made of mild steel. But they're plenty strong and stiff.

They'll be ready next week, for the local peeps who want them, come by and show me some $$. For the out-of town people, I'll post pics, then we can arrange for shipping and payment. First I gotta find me some boxes :)

1st production run is almost sold out, if everyone that's interested picks up a set.

They're in production right now, it takes time as it's a spare time project for the machinist, to keep the price reasonable. Otherwise they'd cost around $250/set ;)

If you want a set, please pre-pay for them, and I'll ship them out as soon as they're ready. Yes, still $140 shipped anywhere in Canada.

Are you reusing or using new packing or fender strip for the fender or some
aftermarket product.

AE86 packing PN and price?

The packing is the black stuff left on the fender rail after you pull the
fender off. You can see some of it left on there especially around the
bolt holes.

thanks
h3tc

that stuff is so unneccessary. if you're anal. go into canadian tire/lordco and pick up some butyl tape. don't know what your post has to do with the braces tho...

Hemi3tc
07-31-2006, 11:30 AM
Don't call me, call Toyota anal. Toyota only builds vehicles to last. Got one. ;)

I'm just going over the instructions in a manual for front fender removal and replacement.
Toyota is the one that has the Part number and everything and put the packing in there in the first place, for some reason. Could be a unibody thing not a body on frame thing or rust thing.

Ya so, to be able to install the brace in you have to re and re the front fender. :cursing:

do-boy
08-01-2006, 01:56 AM
i'm almost positive it is to prevent vibration noises. but if you take your fenders off and leave the excess goop, its reusable. BIG hassle to scrape it all off. but like i said if you really wanna do it, just use butyl tape because thats basically what the goop is. PN is proly for a badged toyota product that is cut to length. nothing you can't do yourself....

i'm saying its anal because 90% of cars out there don't have that stuff on their fenders nor does my corolla after the restoration and i notice no difference. your fender isnt gonna rust prematurely or fall off your car without it....

Good question... it's the color du jour of whatever they're coating.

Surprise colour... but rest assured, since it's inside your fenders, nobody will see a mismatched brace ;)

And the powdercoating will protect the steel. That's where it's at!

(methinks I remember them mentioning "green" but I'm not sure)

IMO they're a requirement, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered having them made up. Obviously, Nagisa Auto, Ueo and others also feel that they're worth marketing ;)

to answer some of your questions:
powder coated for best protection..

the metal flexes, but they are VERY well welded and will not crack under your hardass driving... they WILL increase your body stiffness... and "altezza powered" runs them in his beams powered AE86 with no problems... i doubt you'll use them to their potential...

yup...

I have fender braces and a front strut bar, both are welded into my Hell Rabbit and they are SOLID!!!! I think the rest of the car will tear itself apart before these parts will. I would assume the same quality welds for with these braces.

Got mine installed recently, Thanks! I have a suggestion on the next batch though. I had alot of trouble getting the supplied bolts to thread onto the attachment plate. It would have been 1000 times easier if they were just a little bit longer. Between the thickness of the support bar, car frame, metal burrs behind frame (from making the hole for the bolts), and the thinckness of the attachemnt plate, I was left with 1 maybe 2 threads to grab onto the bolt welded to the attachment plate. A longer bolt would have caused less cursing :D

None the less, just a suggestion and I love the noticable stiffness.

Installation requires deleting your antenna.

Just an FYI, although I have the ueo style ones (as these weren't in production over a year ago) I still have the factory antenna mount.

All you have to do is rotate the antenna base mount 180 degrees and fab up a small 'L' bracket with a 90 degree bend and attatch it with a few self tapping screw's/bolts. I'd take a picture for you, but I'm too lazy to pull my fender again just for that so use your imagination. :D

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y147/assassin10000/shortantenna.jpg

Hint: remove the fender, the antenna, put the fender back on and mark where the hole is on the arch, inside the fender so you can line the antenna up correctly when remounting it.

Andrew, you kick ass and chew bubble gum at the same time don't you ;)

Yinz, they're 'list price $150/pr' but because this is Dorikaze, there's a constant group-buy for these things. $120 local, $140 shipped anywhere in Canada. But as always, there's a catch: you have to wait for the production run, and you have to pay deposit ;)

i didn't even bother on mine, i never listen to the radio.

I did that for a year of the two i've owned the car... Then I finally found some radio brackets & remembered I had the stock radio out of my tacoma stashed away.

Here's a pic of what I did for the mount. (finally had a reason to pull the fender)

As always, first come, first served. If anyone wants them, either send a deposit or payment...

$120 picked up, $140 shipped.

Black.

Need to modify or remove antenna bracket.

Have any left wanted a set b-4 but did'nt get around to it can I
get a set this weekend if possible where you located?

Brian
02-19-2007, 08:28 PM
We can meet up sometime... most of the braces are spoken for, but not many deposits or payments were sent yet. So, money talks... if you get them NOW, you'll get a set.

There's a chance I can pick them up tomorrow and post up some pictures. At which point, first come, first served. If you've sent payment already, rest assured, your braces will be shipped out as soon as I can do it.

Thanks everyone for responding so quickly, they're almost all gone!

Those of you who have sent payment they should be en-route by tuesday.

Everyone else, if you want them, come get them before they're all gone. First paid, first shipped. There are only 4 sets left, and people have 'dibs' on them, but not all are paid...
