Not much sleep + a lot of sun, and a great venue = great track day. :) Thanks to Johhnyengrish and Castro for the driving tips and Chayen at Definitive for a great time.

I overcame some fears of not really knowing the track (first time for me at PIR) to getting a faster towards the end of the day while pushing my personal comfort boundaries a little more. PIR is about twice the length of Mission and has a 400ft elevation change in the middle and higher speeds.

Kinda scary initially, but very fun. the scary part was an instructor pulling a "Takumi" and dropping my rear wheels into the dirt while drifting in turn 3B - then telling me "wow, I'm not used to the front wheel drive cars". Then I told him "Uh, it's rear wheel drive", then he says "Oh, that's why it went sideways!".

Some pics. (not many in action, i was busy driving).

sweet pics! glad you enjoyed PR terry, I agree it's scary driving that track due to the overall faster pace you gotta keep. higher speeds and very technical compared to Mission.

this was definately a super fun day at PIR! Thanks to Terry for coming down with me and taking pics and footage while I was out there having fun. Also, big thanks to Doug (johnnyengrish) for pushing me in the second heat and then showing me some tricks in turn 5a.

Here's a video of some AE86 'battling' between Panda86, Johnny_Engrish, and myself. I let some cool cars pass me too (damn Elises are fast!).

Enjoy (it's kinda big so please be patient):

Also, a big thanks for Chayen for organizing a flawless event. :D

Cool footage, I didn't know you guys were behind me filming for 2 laps. I thought it was my "good driving", but I just realized that on tape there was a slower car in front of me. :D That and I can see that Doug is completely toying with me, ready to overtake at ANY time!! Ha ha ha!!!

I'm dying to see my lines but your rear view mirror is in the way!! :)

Let's set up some of those other cameras we talked about, I'd love to see those "multi angles". Maybe we can do that in a couple weeks?

Hey Cory, I just wanted to ask some of the speeds that you were taking in turn 2 and the 3a/3b sections. You seem to be doing more shifting than when I drove PR. What gears are you using?

cory's car is a lot faster... high comp smallport, forged pistons, etc...

yah, I know he does have more power. Just wondering if he is going through the gears quicker, or if he is dropping down more gears. Want some other perspectives to see how I can improve my driving on that track.

not sure really. I know I was only going about 180 km/h in turn 1. Turn 2 I would down shift to 4th then to 3rd at then end of the cones at the beginning of the turn. In turn 3a I only downshifted to 3rd and then to 2nd while braking for 3b. I could hear Doug going to 2nd at 3a though.

All in all I think I could have been a bit faster in turns 2 and 3a/3b (and turn 8), but it being my first time I think I did ok.

ya, my mirror blocks quite a bit. I think my camera sits too high on the harness bar, but oh well.

I'm game for figuring out more camera angle/mount options. We should do that for Mission ...if my smokin motor is up to the task.

Turn 7 I was WOT in 4th then downshift to 3rd in 8. I think I could have gotten on throttle sooner in turn 8 though.

Next time I guess....

Yeah that track day was pretty fun.

The morning sucked tho, my brakes were literally non-existent. I found out that I had a huge amount of air in the system and i couldnt get it all out. I had to drive slower than I am used to the whole day. The brakes never felt good and I didn't want to risk the car. I freaking hate sandbagging, but when the feeling of the brakes are all the way down to the floor and you get nothing then all of a sudden lock up, its no good. I bled at the track and it felt a little better but it wasn't good enough to go aggresive.

Terry and Cory did really well for their first time out. A few more track events and I am sure that they will be pretty quick. I love it when we have more 86's on the track. It's always good when friends can get together and have fun and exchange information!

All in all I had fun, just had to re-adjust and brake super early before the curve.

Hopefully next track day Ter and Cory can come out again! You guys are always more than welcome!

Best pic of the day. I'll just re-adjust a little timing here and perhaps some fuel pressure...LOL

sweeet footage. What a great high speed track! I wish we had something like that in alberta. All we have is race city with long straights and sharp hard corners... nothing flowing and high speed. jealous....
