thanks to brian for calling me up and dragging my ass for a change, i wanted to go to vedder river but the river was just totally blown and all muddy which makes it unfishable so i suggested with Stave river even if it was my first time on this river. I was always told that the river was infested with chum and a whole lot of them. Chum are fairly easy to catch and VERY FUN, they are the second biggest salmon specie we have in B.C. so they put up a great fight. Naturally they just colour up real fast and look all ugly looking when they enter the fresh water system. Also being its very late in the fall season to fish for these but considering how we had very little rain last month, the fish couldn't come into the river until recently. Normally fall salmon season fishing is over by now but not today!
ok, heres some pictures thanks to pmei's camera.

here we are just arriving at stave river and getting ready to hit the flow!

as we worked in our morning, about 10 mins once we started fishing. i fouled hooked one ugly looking sucker which prompted me to change my spinner set up back to the good ol' jig and wools cause i may end up stressing my reel and roe if i fight foul hooked fish. Trust me its no fun trying to bring in a fish that is hooked in the tail and just blasting down the river! (I am a type of guy to catch and release a lot of my fishes unless its very suitable for me to keep aka super chrome!!) which shorty 5 mins afterward if i recall correctly.
Brian gets his first strike and sets the hook and bam........and i was unhooking his fish which turned out to be a female chum salmon and it was rather a very nice looking and the best looking fish we had all day.
another look at a very happy person! :arf:
heres me gutting brian's fish! look at those single's roe. they'll make a nice batch of roe for next fishing trip we do.

so we all get in our fishes except DAVE! I think at one point we had a triple header which means 3 people each fighting a fish close by each other. it was speechless to see Dennis bring in a big sucker on his 5wt flyrod, that was one impressive feat. I was told it was his first fish EVER on his fly rod and wow it looked like he knew what he was doing. Dave guided him through the process on landing it. As my Blacklevin aka Narin, i believe he was on a hooking spree but unfortunately unable to land them as you watch him from a far distance to see his hook and float is just fly off in every direction. afterwhile he finally got around to landing a couple and i guess this is the only picture

now 604Pmei wasn't having much of a luck, which i found out some of his gear wasn't set up properly and i couldn't believe he brought a small rod for salmon yet i was amazed that the rod held up its end! he actually hooked into one but that sucker just took off on him and eventually snapped his hook. I believe he did land one and hook into several for the day.
he was just pumping with adrenaline after that first fish got away.

So the story for Dave? well he had no luck on his flyrod due to very limited casting space. He then switched rods and tried Brian but it turned out Brian's uncle's reel had a bit of a malfunctioning problem. So Brian handed him his rod to try for now and he still had no luck and eventually i think he just gave up. But since i already had my share of fun, i thought i let Dave try out my centerpin rod. You could ask him how different it felt from fly fishing to centerpin. After explaining and guiding him through the process on how to use the rod and reel, he wasn't doing so bad. About 10 mins finally getting into that awesome drift BAM! Float takes a hard dip and FISH ON!
He was battling his first fish of the day that was legally hooked in the mouth! he lands it but we thought we already hit our daily quota for the day so we released it only to find out we could have kept it. it was a nice big sucker too. But thats ok it followed up with 3 more fishes on, one after another!! Dave was on fire, tell mr AHBRA how centerpin and fly fishing are two different method of fishing and rods are completely different. He had some magical idea that he can slap on a fly reel on a centerpin rod and away he goes. :confused5:

Everyone who came out had a blast, zombie fish or not but hell we were just hooking into them. Mind you, everyone here that came aside Dave haven't landed their first non foul hooked salmon until today. Brian took about 4 or 5 trips with me until he finally managed to hook his first one on his own. Dennis came with me before but skunked out on salmon but got a small rainbow trout that day. Your asking where's a picture of me and my fish? ah i think everyone had enough of me catching fishes every other trip haha. I enjoy getting ppl into salmon fishing as they are fun to fish. We should call this our first DK group fishing trip!:happydrunks:

Ah, good times. We need to get a crew out again soon. Hopefully a lake for some trout, so my fly rod isn't completely useless.

I don't know what happened to me that day, but I was just having terrible luck, until I switched to that centrepin. Still had a blast though, and am looking forward to the next adventure.
