OFFICIAL Group Buy: Custom Hytech Headers

There have been a lot of interest in headers that fit LHD, look nice, and most of all offer significant performance gains.

Enter Hytech Exhaust.....

HyTech has been the leader in race engine exhaust technology for the past 21 years, with numerous championships in SCCA, USAC, Trans-Am, World SportsCars, Dirt Track and NHRA Drag racing series.

I'm personally building my vision of a NA AE86. I narrowed down my choices to a very few choice headers: Silk Road, Danstoy, Martelius.....and Vibrant and KBD.

The Silk Road and Danstoy header have not so ideal 4-1 designs. While the Martelius is a EU offering with an unconventional 4-2-1 design. Interesting and I seriously considered it for a while. Vibrant and KBD headers are just about impossible to find nowadays.

Then I heard about Hytech through the Honda forums. Very impressive gains. After looking at the Hytech site, I found that they made the Formula Altantic headers. After some e-mail correspondence, I decided to go for a custom header. But I didn't forget that the 4AG RWD community had been looking for quality headers for some time. I tossed the idea to John to make a batch of 10 headers. He was able to offer a $500 discount if 10 buyers could be found. The regular price is $1800 USD for a custom setup.

Yes, I would be interested in a batch of 10. If we did that the price would drop to about 1,300.00 per set.

It would be a state of the art set with all the technology that we have today. Not what everyone else has. This is a serious header for serious guys who want the best.

And it would take 6 to 8 weeks from when I get the prototype finished to make a run of them.

The material would be Rath/Gibson stainless steel with the head pipes made out of .065 wall for strength and the rest out of .049 for weight savings. It will have a billet stainless steel flange.

The basic layout would be a 4 into 2 into 1 tri-y design. With two step primary dia with anti-reversion chambers. The collectors will be high velocity merge collectors with venturi exits.

It will be a modified version of what we developed for the Toyota Atlantic cars. A few years ago, pretty much all the cars ran my headers.

*I will be driving my car to California in June to get a proper fitting. If John can make it fit on my car with a maze of bracing underneath and P/S rack/pump, it will fit on yours. Guys with AC, sorry. Unless you can bring in your car for prototyping, this a race item and that’s what Hytech caters to. If 20V guys can provide measurements for a 20V exhaust flange configuration, John is also willing to modify the 16V flanges to fit if it’s not too much work.

This header will be suitable for any state of tune within reason. It will have an O2/wideband bung welded on for tuning and emissions.

In order to be put on the waiting list, you must put down a 25% NONREFUNDABLE deposit. Hytech builds race headers and these will all be handmade. It’s time consuming work, don’t waste anybody’s time. They will be of the highest quality and that doesn’t come cheap. You will NOT be sending me the money. I have been authorized to be John’s proxy on the forums. After he confirms the deposit, I will update the list.

Whether or not this group buys succeeds, I’ve decided to go Hytech. No if, ands, or buts. Group buy ends in June when I drive down to prototype the headers.

1300 yen?

02-20-2009, 04:37 PM
Good luck with sale mate, but thats a bit steep for us fellas :D

02-20-2009, 04:39 PM
i think there is some confusion going on here. is it 1300 for one header or 1300 for 4 headers? clarity please

02-20-2009, 05:06 PM
$1300/4= 25% = $325

the 325 or 335 is just the 25% deposit.

thats the way i take it.

Holy **** expensive ass header. worth more than some peoples cars here . Although I probably would rather spend $1300 on this header than $1100 on leboes car....

02-20-2009, 05:35 PM
Wish I could afford one of these, but I think I'll spend the money on a black top :S
They sound really really nice though :(
I wouldn't say they're overpriced at all. The exhaust on my bike cost 2500, you usually get what you pay for.

02-20-2009, 06:17 PM
oh my lord, ill make my own for half the price shesh thats steep

The exhaust on my bike cost 2500....

my bike exhaust cost $1850. but don't forget the exhaust is complete, header, pipe, cans.

by the time u finish building this thing it will cost you $2500 at least.

He's in Vancouver.

I work on his car.

He was/is from Ottawa.

1 - If you don't think I'm legitimate, e-mail John himself at Hytech. I am in no way handling your money nor am I profiting AT ALL from this. I saw an opportunity to save everyone $500 on a rare piece of engineering.

2 - Anyone with decent welding skills and time can make a header that looks nice and fits. Hytech has been making headers for a LONG time. In case you didn't really read original post, he made the headers for Atlantic engines. He should know a thing or two about 4AG breathing requirements.

3 - $335 is the 25% deposit needed to get your name on the list.

4 - E-mailed John this evening. Will post further details and update original post.

Edit: As for my location. I've had my car stolen before. I'm not keen on experiencing that again.

Don't be so quick to bash it for it's price, guys. Remember you're paying for a rare piece of 4AGE-history of the N/A Formula Atlantic quality. I suppose you can relate its "price vs quality" in the same way that the Fujitsubo Legalis R is so damn expensive. You get the quality and performance you pay for. Can't wait to see pics, and to hear how it sounds & performs!

oh my lord, ill make my own for half the price shesh thats steep

and it probably wont work half as good:thumbsup:

and it probably wont work half as good:thumbsup:

hey u never know.

guess ill have to make one and dyno it with my current hp readings and see the difference hahahha

hey what is the finish on these things? polished?raw stainless w/exposed welds??painted?

02-25-2009, 07:41 PM
I wanted a Hytech header bad back when I had a Integra. Those are serious pieces of well designed metal.

02-25-2009, 08:04 PM
These will be raw metal. Have a good look around Hytech's website. That's how they will look finished. If this group buy does get underway, I'll contact Swaintech to do a molten ceramic coating group buy on the headers. Protection from the elements plus reduction in engine bay temps.

I think for $1300 you could get at least 20-30 more hp from a 4ag. But not with a header.

02-26-2009, 07:09 AM
I think for $1300 you could get at least 20-30 more hp from a 4ag. But not with a header.

You could do a turbo setup for that and make another 80hp.

02-26-2009, 10:31 AM
i think for $325 you could make more power with a turbo setup!

manifold and a T25 with no i/c and run 3psi? :p

02-28-2009, 10:13 AM
I thought TRD made the best headers. I would have to have solid dyno results before spending $1300

Last call for people to express interest.

So far no one has sent a deposit.

In another week I will be ending this.
