a project in my shop closer to completion

well today was a good day. project vtech mini fired up for the first time today. got all the wiring figured out for the motor and such. still a fair bit to do on finishing it up but this was a major hurdel that is now passed.

this project has been in the shop for over a year , mind you though the body shop had it for 3 months of that time.

the mini has a full custom front subframe/ frame assembly wich houses the d16z vtech powerplant. and this motor is not stock.

    some pics......

    Almost Ludicrous Speed Fast.

Stock D16Z6's are rated at 128hp. Adam said this was a built engine. I'm betting if this can get traction, it will run low 14's to high to mid 13's on the 1320. I have seen and known ppl with bulit D16's run 13.9's in a chassis that is much much more heavier(EK)with street tires than the 25lb mini.

that engine is equipped with a race head with oversized valves and quite a bit of shave. the Seller claims that with even the stock block it will push 160HP or more.

    160HP on a 860kg mini and 240HP on a 1060kg rolla.

I smell a drag race coming on ...... on Mission raceway of course

to make the motor fit inside the short front end of a mini, i first had to cut up a brand new DC sports header and squish it to fit closer to the block , i also had to modify it from a 4-2-1 into a 4-1 with a big collector. the intake also got highly modified, it to got cut and squished and then rewelded back together.

i had to make custom hybrid drive shafts mini hubs - honda tranny
    custom shifter linkage
coilover front suspension with adjustable dampers, adjustable rear dampers with HiLo kit.
there is just way to much custom work done on this thing to explain. i will post up more picks in the comming month to show the progress.

lemme answer that one. No. The SOHC VTEC engine will (barely) fit into the OE Mini front end's space.

those with stretched hoods are on DOHC VTEC B16A B16B B18C B17C etc etc..... tho I totally told the owner DOHC is where it's at he insists that a mini with extended hood looks weird. :e

read above, the intake and exhaust manifolds were shortened so it would fit inside the stock sized front end.

unless that's a super bored out track only EK, i'm having a hard time believing on this. can you provide me a more detailed build on the D16 on that EK doing 13s? aside from being a Toyota freak, i'm also a big fun of D16s. i've seen full blown NA build ups to boosted street driven cars so i'm not new to the D16 scene. just so you know a stock 1.8L ITR powered EK on RA1s was running mid 14s to very low 14s (14.208) but NEVER broke into 13s. that car was dynoed at 182whp.

btw, that's a one hell of a project Adam. congrats!
