Bought it new from Toyota, so it should be intact! Heh...

Is that like the Kouki version?? Cuz mine isn't leather wrapped like that. o_O :/ lol Unless that was like an option or something? lol.

I just replaced mine with an aftermarket JDM shift-knob, but I'm starting to miss the feel of the OEM stock. It doesn't quite feel right. I guess I just need to get used to it a bit more.

The GT-S always had the leather knob, the SR-5 didn't though.

Most people have never even seen one with leather on it, as over time it wears off. My car still had the original knob with leather on it... I still have it actually.

    I love this knob, heh.

Now that it's light out, maybe I'll take a pic of it in the car today.

(Toyota here wanted $199 for it, but I bought it from a dealership in the US, Jay Marks/Champion Toyota down in Texas, they have real good prices on stuff. I paid $69 USD for it.)

Wah? Really? o_O Now I gotta go back and look at my old knob to see if it somehow stripped off before I got it.

Hhm.. now looking at your knob, the leather comes and meets at the top, and there are these cracked remnants of some kind of sealant/glue around it where the leather meets the circle at the top. SO MAYBE it did. :O Looks kinda cool without it, or maybe it's because I've been used to it without it for the longest time. Hahaha.

When I was a kid, my favourite relative was Uncle Caveman.
After school we'd all go play in his cave, and every once in awhile he would eat one of us.
It wasn't until later that I found out that Uncle Caveman was a bear.

I have the P/N in the car, not on me right now.

Just ask for a black leather shift knob for an 86 Corolla GT-S, no worries.

ooooh man that's HOT. I considered getting a new one years ago, but didn't like the $130 CAN price tag at that time.

I'm hooked on ball-type shifters though. I had to switch back to my Starlet shift knob in place of the metal IS300 shifter I have. I looooove it.

Yeah, the local dealership wants $199 for it.

I think with all things included (shipping, etc) I paid about $90 Cdn for it. It just doesn't pay to buy things from Toyota dealerships in Canada, especially with the dollar the way it is right now.

Though on larger items, shipping may be a bit much.

you'll be amazed at the differences in parts pricing between USA and canada sometimes... like a woodgrain shifter knob for a GS430 is $6XX.XX in canada, it's $2XX.XX in the states... it's amazing the differences sometimes...

    .

Y'know, I originally didn't think that AE86 GTS shiftknobs were wrapped in leather. All the ones I've seen were smooth plastic. I later realized they've all just come off with age.

Getting it from a Celica, but Toyota had a few and they're all similar, can get one from an 89+ Supra for relatively cheap, people don't care too much about the stock decks. I'm picking mine up for $25 USD + shipping.

A note though, most of Toyota's CD players use an external amp, which will have to be mounted somewhere, and another note, Toyota always uses the same stereo connectors for the stereos, however, it's year based. 83-86 Toyotas use one connector, 87-2000 Toyotas use another one. So if you have an older AE86 (84-86), you have the older connector, and you'll need to convert to the 87+ style one if you want to use the newer stereo. I've already converted my car to the 87+ style connectors. I'm going to be mounting the external amp behind the glove box, where I currently have a CB radio, haha.
