I'm not upset. I'll be honest that people were right. The risk wasn't really much of a risk:

-4AC Head was from a really hard knocking motor, the previous owner told me it was a collapsed lifter.
-4AG block was given to me for free, the head on it was loose.

both the head and the block were a mystery, there was no point in dropping $60 I don't have to see if the motor would even function. now that I know the head and block are both decent, it's time to put in a good gasket. Was worth a try as well.

The diff needs to be welded ASAP, the car pulls decent for a 4ac. I'd like to go lower, maybe take some of the dead coils out of the eibachs to drop it down a bit, and some small blocks in the rear. Nothing crazy. Then just make a bracket to hold my steering column a bit more solid and I think the car will be perfect. Transmission is the next to go. I'm calling it now.

Shouldn't this be called the Tarter Wagon?, as that would be yellow. Plaque is grey-ish, or are you going to repaint? If we keep the teeth theme going that is.

Shouldn't a build thread have "building"

I don't like either of these things.

Car got stripped down to a shell. Drivetrain was swapped. Motors were mixed together. Car was drifted on backroads. Now what.

I'd love to compete, but I just don't have the resources to make it a running car right now.

So, some small progress today. I finally had some courage to go out side and compression test it:
    1. 181psi
    2. 182psi
    3. 180psi
    4. 180psi

****ing awesome news then. The 4AG bottom end is doing it's job of upping the compression and there doesn't seem to be a headgasket leak.

Here's the Philosophers question: If an engine with no headgasket leak runs terrible and over heats in the same manner as it did before but with a new headgasket, was the old reused gasket ever the problem to begin with?

Case in point, still getting air in the coolant, but found a leak in the heater core, and recently cracked a hose on a test drive.

    Possible causes of heat?

The 4AC head has a bunch of gayitry in the exhaust manifold, some sort of recirculation pipe that runs off a flap inside the cast manifold. It seems that it's loose and flopping around on it's own. Perhaps this flap is being a bitch and causing restriction. When feeling the exhaust out the tip, it's not a constant smooth flow, but rather consistent surges of air motion.

I did my first ever water pump on this engine, and perhaps I over sealed it, causing a restriction in spin? The clutch fan may be lying to me, spinning on the outside but not the inside?

My timing is FUXXED, it just seems to run with 15+ to 20+ degrees of advance, when retarded, it chugs and dies.

    any other suggestions?
