    '74 Hilux - "It's not a project, no, really!"

Yeah so.. picked this up off JayWhit about 1.5 yrs ago.. Ive always wanted one.. and my mom needed something to run yard waste.. and I can always use a truck.. so why not.. was totally NOT going to be a project.. oops.

4 wheel drum, 18RC, auto, longbox.

Frame is solid with the exception of 1 cab mount.. cab (obviously) needs some love.. as I dont care tremendously about this one, I figure its an excellent practice piece for my bodywork welding..

When I got it, one of the prev owners had plugged off the rear brake circuit with a bolt in the m/c .. so it was front drum only.. ran a few piles of stuff to the garden depot.. and then a few months back was comin down the hill behind my place towards a stop sign.. front wheels got onto leaves and I slid into the middle of the intersection.. nice n gracefully.. so I figured that was that..

Turns out.. Toyota is awesome. Balljoints and brake booster mounting are the same all the way up to '83.. so grabbed some parts a few weeks back outta the junkyard for cheap and finally started swapping stuff today..

Disc front end will more or less slip onto the balljoints with no changes.. have to run some new brake pipe in the engine bay as the routing is a bit different than an '83 but no big deal.

As soon as the brakes are done I'll check compression.. if its decent I'll just throw a weber 32/36 on to fix some carb issues, update the 18RC points dizzy to 22R elec ignition internals and then start on body..

olive drab body with black wheels n front bumper is the current plan.. have a line on some 200x Tacoma 2wd steelies with tires..

Yeah, the baby blue is actually the factory color.. though someone went over most of the body with a slightly darker shade and, i **** you not, a paintbrush..

I figured olive drab cause it should be pretty easy to spray once piece at a time in my tiny basement and Im not worried about pretty shine.. its gonna be a rat work truck.. just with less holes and dependable mechanics..

wow, looks like it held up pretty well for a paintbrush job. its probably on so think there's no hope in hell of it rusting on the outside! I wouldn't say no to the idea of brushing paint on my datsun. its a legitimate paint job to be 70's period correct anyways!

Awesome Brett, nice to see you finally get some time to put into the truck.

Radical! Looking forward to seeing this: functionally low. Easy to put things into the bed, but handles decent with them in it.

Nice meeting you at the meet.....wait a second!
