    Turboing my 4age 16v bluetop

Im going to turbo my bluetop 16v for kicks.

I already got a rare hks rwd 4age t25 mani (from jover) with a tb2569 turbocharger from a sabb. Im planning to run 5psi for now and see if my crappy head gasket will hold. I already got a acura integra 115lph pump and she runs rich with always black smoke when i blip the throttle so boosting it should balance it out perfect!

I already got 4an braided lines and fittings for the turbo with a 1.5mm restrictor. Also will run a sw20 mr2 intercooler slightly modded with a pipe relocate.

Some of you might know the car from someone on here :3

sounds like you need hacked bluetop management... like the PCM I made two years ago that's been collecting dust on my computer speaker system.

Just 'cause you put a bigger fuel pump on the car doesn't mean anything. I had a 300lph pump on my NA corolla. There is the stock FPR as well to worry about.

You're probably running rich from all that crap in the way of your intake, and your stock ECU wondering what the hell is going on.

Sparkie's ECU sounds like a prime idea.

Yeah, fuel pump size does nothing to you fueling unless you have some super restrictive return line that flows less than your FPR.

Good luck though. Put a wideband on it and tell us what happens.

I tried everything to see why its running rich, different maf, filter, stock intake tube, temp sensors, etc and only thing i can wonder thats left is either the fuel pump,
fuel return line or that the o2 sensor is on only one cylinder because of the vibrant headers. I also have a 12:1 FMU but i dont think it will need it for now.

Do you know the thread size for the extra oil port on the block? I need that so I can get an 4an fitting.

Good luck with this build. An old school DK'er Matt (aka Chromedragon) did something similar a while back. I've posted the relevant threads below for reference. Maybe you might find some useful info.

Thanks a bunch! too bad most of the photos are gone. I hope i can turbo this thing without touching anything else other than timing and adding a wide band. If anything, i can add in the fmu later if she runs lean.

I also talked with alot of people that used to turbo these back in the 1990's and they said 6-7psi is a very reliable and will take it all day long as long as you pull back the timing. We will see with 5psi lol

    Manifold looks sweet.

My 2 cents is look into gze Pistons. They can often be found and installed for very cheap. 9/10 boosted bluetops crack ring lands.

Is the fitting similar in size to an oil pressure sender hole? British Standard Pipe 1/8" BSP?

Matt's pictures are still on Photobucket, you just need to search through to find them. I purchased his turbo setup when he started his v8 swap. Ran it for about 10,000km and cracked a ring in #2. Swapped it for a spare motor and went 4agze that winter, then sr20, then 1uz haha. It ran great for me, I delivered pizzas with it 5 days a week and took it to weekly drift practices.

Here's my build, the first couple pages cover the 4agte.

Awesome! i remember reading your build once few years back and at the time I never thought of turboing a 4AGE. how much boost were you running and fuel pressure? also what timing did you set it at?

Some updates for now, winter is coming so I dont think ill be starting the install anytime soon but dont word me on that yet.

I got the brass 4an adapter with 1.5mm restrictor for the tb2569 and bought some ebay fittings along with braided line for under $15 shipped Lol! hope it holds. If not I have another line but doesn't have a 90 degree bend.

I was running 7psi, ~70psi at the fuel rail, timing was 10*

Is that 70psi during boost? Or idle?

Idle. Remember to yank the vacuum line from it when you adjust it.

Been there, done that. Ran for 2 summer and cracked rings lands on cylinder #2 haha.

Here's the BEST recipe for it to work, while keeping it simple. But never try running more than 7 psi, it will fail without a full standalone.

1-Reset ECU and UNPLUG o2 sensor, to stop the "learning" do this BEFORE BOOSTING
2-Get slightly bigger injectors (lots can do....3S, 7M, just don't go crazy. Shoot for ~300cc ones) Too big will run like ****, stock won't have enough head room.
3-You can tighten/clock slightly the spring in your AFM to compensate for the bigger injectors until the AFR is fine. IIRC about 5-7 clicks tighter should work good. MARK THE WHEEL AND BE CAUTIOUS.
4-Set base timing to 5 degrees. This will help save you ring lands.
5-Buy that that thing http://trackdogracing.com/TDR-Fuel-Card.aspx (the one for 90-05) which is batch injection. This will work for any other 4 cylinder that is batch injection. Basicly it uses the ECU pulse and lenghten it when under boost. Aim for 11.4-11.8 under boost.
6-If you don't want to buy the track dog thing, leave the o2 unplugged all the time and use a rising rate FPR (FMU).

If you keep the 02 pluged without an 02 clamp or fuel card, the ecu will slowly learn during the closed loop conditions and will apply that offset when under open loop. This leads to leaner that you should conditions under boost which WILL crack your rings lands.

If done well, this can run pretty good. BUT. GZE pistons are cheap and WAY more tolerant to detonation and a MS3 will allow you to tune it for whatever you want.

    Have fun.
