    Toyota van rearend info.

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone can give me some info on figuring out what rearends came in the 80's generation toyota toaster vans. I have found this one for sale but the guy can only tell me it came from a van and he believes it is 4.3 gears and is a 7.5". Are there any tell tale signs that would help to verify with out pulling it apart. Only thing I know are it is a 4 link setup and 4 bolt axles. Things I don't know is year it came out of, if was auto or manual. Any info would be nice

    If it's coil sprung it's a van, if it's leafsprung it's a truck.

    Sounds like a van rearend.

Not all toaster vans have the F code 7.5" rearend though.

Is there anyway to tell besides pulling it apart that you are aware of dug. Guy claims cause the end of the pinion shaft is blue that means it is a 4.3 gear ratio and from that he says it has to be a f282.....

^ I've only removed F code rearends from vans (5 now) and they were all coil sprung. What model has the leafs? According to what I read on the internet the Toyota LE van only came with coil springs and the previous generation (Before 85) were leafs.

AFAIK you cannot tell gear codes from colours or anything like that? There is lots of info on how to identify these diffs and I've never heard that.

Supposedly they came with a 3.9 or a 4.3 depending on transmission.

I don't know how to identify from the outside housing if it's a 7.5. I always checked the vehicles info plate before pulling to confirm the F code.

86-89 YR29's had leaf springs, all others (YR21, 22, 27, 31, 32) had coil springs. Not all no-window vans had leafs (some were YR32's and some YR29's had windows).

    84-85 = 7.1" Rear Differential
86-89 = 7.5" Rear Differential (leaf and coil sprung vans)

    84 A/T = 4.10:1 7.1"
    85 A/T = 4.30:1 7.1"
    84-85 M/T = 3.91:1 7.1"
    86-89 RWD M/T = 4.10:1 7.5"
    86-89 RWD A/T, 86-89 4WD M/T = 4.30:1 7.5"
    86-89 4WD A/T = 4.78:1 7.5"

Judging from the pic, it looks like a 7.1" differential, so 84-85. As for whether it's a 3.91, 4.10 or 4.30, you'd probably have to count the rotations.

    Hope that helps!

Well all the vans I stole rearends from had windows, I'm not sure I've ever seen a panel version. Cool.

You are going to need to take it apart to make it fit a corolla anyways. Just measure it.
