    The Crusty Rescue

Well, apparently I am full of bad ideas. First, I convince my brother in law to buy a broken, non-running RA21 Celica race car (with no papers other than SCCA log books), on December 23 or something, where we have to go and pick it up in Chilliwack. Then I aid him in thinking that an 18RG would be a great idea.

When he ran out of money, I bought it off him, cause....I wanted it too!

......Sold that to Clay, may it live on in better hands.

Now, here I go again, finding a bad idea and buying it. 1985 Celica GT, that's been parked for 10 years. Ran when parked....and burned more oil than a 2 stroke. "She started right up, 2 years ago..."
Doesn't start. Gas refuses to go into the tank. Tires are all flat to hell.

    But not too much rust.

All of the notorious hatch rust I could find:

    Sooo....anyone got a 22re sitting around?

Every Year these cars grow on me a bit more. Maybe due to some of the bad ass ones people are bulding on DK right now. I really like this one, it just looks so clean and simple. Great shell to start with thats for sure.

Right on, another RA65 on the forum!

Looks like a good find. These solid axle GT cars are ideal candidates for 1UZ power.

Right now? Get it running and daily it. Fix things that need fixing, and then go from there.

Yes, it is that one. I work at Island Detail, got curious about it and asked the owner. He gave a great price I couldn't say no to.

I love the later front end. Looks like a great start. How's the interior?

Same, I never liked the earlier front end, the exposed headlights tilted up just isn't aesthetically appealing to me.
Interior is in "decent" shape. The vinyl beneath the rear windows is fried, completely. The dash and front seems to be in good shape. Seats seem pretty clean, and there is very little mold, but I haven't really gone over it with a fine tooth comb yet. That happens tomorrow. I'll grab pics then.

Annnd, home. If anyone in Vic saw a blue Celica headed down douglas and onto the highway, puking smoke out the back? Yes, you saw me.

Front of the car's interior, dash is pretty solid, nothing to complain about. Radio still works, but the connections to the speakers seem a bit...imperfect. Gauges all work except for the fuel. Did find, on the drive home, that the driver's seat....isn't that comfortable. Feels like the lumbar support is just a bar, bracing into my back.

    Rear seats look great.

Yeah, top of the driver's side, rear passenger window trim is shot. Passengers is as well, just...less so. Driver's door card at the top is crusty and brittle.

22RE, that drinks the dino. Apparently my neighbor might have a line on a 22RE a friend of his has, with a blown head gasket. Price might be right too (Free).

What happens when you forget that your Voltmeter is reading 12v when running, and you turn the wrong way when heading for sidney, so you head up Finlayson Arm Rd...?

At about 5 to 8 volts, the engine just gives up, as you climb a hill.

    Brilliance!

Brother in law came to my rescue. Car is home. All good.

Hopefully got a line on some cheap wheels and tires, come early next month. That will be one step closer to being driveable, in a not sketchy as **** kinda way.

Add alternator, and bam! Rolling like a boss.

    Good stuff.

So are you sticking with that 22re afterall? Did it just need to give itself a quick auto-rehone?

I wish I hadn't tossed my cruise control stuff when I did the 1JZ swap. Jealous.

Nah, she is still burning oil, just not making clouds. I will need to takeca look into the issue, but for a while, running like a two smoke isn't going to kill it.
