    DK Dead?

Haven't been around in a while, year or two maybe, seems like this place is a ghost town now? Maybe it picks up again in the summer. Or maybe everyone's corollas rusted apart or they kissed too many curbs.

Most forums I am a part of seem to be experiencing something similar to varying degrees.

    You need to diversify. Haha.

Is it Facebook? Are we moving into a post-car-forum world?

Some forums are still crazy busy (ih8mud).

Make sure to contribute as much as you lurk.

The offtopic and for sale sections are what feed the views of everything else. When people stop making dumb offtopic posts, or stop posting sale ads, the technical forum and everything else dies off.
Facebook groups have absorbed most of the Corolla ownership and trading.

Post your **** for sale, throw up some stuff that's questionable content in the offtopic section to breathe life into what is becoming an archive.

I haven't been working on my car as much due to lack of funds, owning a house, and just a total loss of interest in doing anything car-related.
There's probably lots I could be doing to the car, but without any racing in my near future, it's really tough to get back into it.

I did end up painting the front end of an acura though.

Colour comes tomorrow, so there's that I suppose

Is there a technical thread for how to paint a car at home in the garage yet? I'll need it in a couple months if there is.

Tech questions don't need to be asked anymore. I think everything has come up and can be searched.

Also, nobody drives old Toyotas anymore. And anyone who is new is probably on FB.

Spence, I'm hoping you're blocking that primer and that it's a primer-surfacer, or you'll get bullseyes on those putty spots. Looks good, though.

I guess there's so few die hard corolla people out there. Most own them because they're poor and they used to be more plentiful. I sold my 370 and bought another Corolla because divorce and I always have Corolla dreams, for some reason. Last one I buy, I swear

"blocking?" I had some issues with the primer thickening up on me hence the blushing on the hood. Hopefully we'll be able to get colour and clear on tonight

Block sanding the primer with 240, 320, 400,and orbital 600 before base and clear to eliminate minor surface imperfections. What paint are you using? It depends on what calibre of finish you're looking for, I suppose

    Mad peint

There's a lot of dust that settled on the top right corner of the hood, but apparently my buddy who owns the car doesn't care too much about it. He also wants to drive it today, even though clear went on 10 hrs ago...

This is sadly true, I go to the barlow meets in Calgary semi frequently and I'm lucky to see 1 old toyota. Most of the time it's a 1st gen 4runner or old pickup though.

The cars that this site is devoted to are literally antiques now. Not many around and the ones that are generally owned by people who know what they are doing with them and what they want out of them.

Maybe if there wasn't a huge gap or years that Toyota made no interesting cars the site could keep rolling easier.

I lurk a lot on here still, but don't post nearly as often.

I used to come here for tech info and to watch all the wild rides being built in the members section. Nowadays it's just the same noobs asking the same questions as 10 years ago, it can be tiring.

I follow Steve's celica, that V8 mr2 and a handful of other builds on here.

AE86 isn't affordable anymore, and the FRS hasn't become fully affordable yet. No i'm not paying 5% less than dealer cost for a 2-3 year old car.

Most AE86 guys from back in the day are driving other cars now, myself included. And then there's guys like Gpenny building the coolest ae86s ever and he never shares with us lol.

Seriously how many of you know about his latest wild rotary creation?

^ Pretty sure you nailed it on the head on all counts. People aren't building cool/stupid cars anymore. When was the last update on a Devin built Home Depot aero-special? I know he has a 3UZ and an FRS chassis...

Yeah the amount of interesting content on the forum has really declined lately.

We have a Whatsapp group chat with around 50 people for the 604 guys which is quite a bit more active.
